“It’s like the Grammy’s of the Underground! With the Underground Music Awards, Urban Threshold has created a great platform for talented independent artists to get on the radar and receive accolades and major recognition “. - Riggs Morales, Director of A&R of Shady Records

Underground Music Awards is a national award show that breaks all of the rules of conventionalism. Unlike the Grammy Awards or the Billboard Music Awards, the Underground Music Awards were created to acknowledge and honor the achievements and contributions of unsigned and independent artists within the urban music scene. Every year there are incredible records released by independent labels and artists. Very rarely do the institutional accolades of the music industry reach or embrace independent music or the community of artists and fans who now represent 25% of all global music sales. Hence, the Underground Music Awards Program was born to fill that void.

Past winners and Honorees of Urban Threshold’s Underground Music Awards include: Lupe Fiasco, MIMS, Stiles P, Kid Capri, MOP, Papoose, Remy Martin, Killah Priest, Afu-Rah, Kool G. Rap, Lil Mamma, DJ Red Alert, Ralph McDaniels, Cormega, DJ Kay Slay, Saigon, Lumidee, and many more..

Unkle Bob – June 13 @ The Rivoli

Unkle Bob

Unkle Bob – June 13 @ The Rivoli
… yes Bob is your uncle

In amongst the manufactured pop drivel, the excitable indier-than-thou new Smiths-elects and the R&B sound-a-likes, you too may have had the good fortune to have stumbled upon something quite special.  Enter Unkle Bob – a UK band smacking of classic pop sensibilities, contemporaneous melodies, and immediate melodrama.Their debut LP ‘Sugar and Spite’ (2006) received critical acclaim and the momentum has landed them sync spots in Grey’s Anatomy, CSI Miami, and most recently in the film What Happens In Vegas.  Boasting over 50,000 downloads on itunes, they’ve also entered the Billboard 100 singles chart, and have that uncanny knack of sounding like they’ve been hanging around in your record collection your whole life.June 13th Unkle Bob will be performing at 10pm at The Rivoli as part of NXNE.  With a live performance spanning emotional melodic rock tracks to big and broody anthems, they’ve drawn flattering comparisons from early REM to Prefab Sprout and Radiohead.

Usain Bolt 100 meters world record

Usain Bolt
It’s official, Jamaica again owns the 100m world record after Usain Bolt today ran 9.72 seconds to beat compatriot Asafa Powell’s previous world record of 9.74.

He was running at the Reebok grand prix meeting at Icahn Stadium, New York, and beat 100m world champion Tyson Gay of the United States into second with a time of…who cares (9.85).
What makes Bolt’s achievement even more remarkable - coming from an island of just 2.7 million people that has produced so many great sprinters - is that this Bolt, as a 200m runner, is relatively new to this distance.

On top of that, both Bolt and Powell choose to remain and train in Jamaica - not at more ‘high-tech’ facilities in the United States.

Earlier in May Bolt ran 9.76 at the National Stadium in only his third competitive 100m race, astounding the crowd, and watching from the stands he looked comfortable doing it.
My friend next to me, who had himself run 100m at Champs, claimed the time was wrong.
“He can’t be running that fast!”
He just ran faster
